Globe Telecom’s New Identity

August 6. The dry spell that has been worrying Philippine government leaders, farmers, and environmentalists ended. Along with the storm, Globe Telecom launched their new corporate identity.

I was expecting a huge teaser / build-up campaign for something this big. Aside from a few newspaper ads, (apparently) mall installations and a TV launch campaign, this new logo came out of nowhere. So I guess its no surprise that most Filipinos didn’t notice (or they didn’t care) of the change. Oh well.

I like it. Especially the new logo type. It’s friendly and approachable, an aesthetic that many tech companies are currently adapting (at&t), a trend that was first started by Apple. It would’ve worked better though if the ‘g’ is in small caps, but I guess they opted not to because it would look too different from their previous identity.

I’m not so keen on the sphere logo mark. Maybe it would’ve looked better without the gradients (just a solid blue) or with just the hand icon. It looks too Web 2.0.

Anyway, what do you think of Globe’s new identity?

Re-Boot!

Apologies!

A lot has happened between the launch (070707) and now, and I know that there has been a glaring lack of content for the site this past month. So now, we’re doing a RE-BOOT! Again, we’re sorry for not updating and adding new content to the site sooner. Hopefully, our updates would become more regular starting now.

We certainly hope so!

After talking, wishing, and hoping of having this blog / e-zine created we now have SSISMO up and ready to go! So now that we’re here and you’re here, what can you expect? As stated in ISSUE ZERO of the e-zine, we’ll explore art, design and life in the Philippine context.

In the coming days, weeks, months and (hopefully) years, we’ll be covering design, art and everything in between and maybe throw in a few wild cards as well for good measure. We’ll be breaking news and writing features. Highlighting the best of the Philippines and shaming the worst. We’re sorry but someone’s gotta do it. Hehe!

Ultimately, the goal is to create awareness of the importance of design, art, and culture. And hopefully, to make our fellowmen and others around the world conscious of the environment that greatly influences them. These are lofty goals and ideals sure, but we’ll give it a shot.

Who are we? Currently, the staff is composed of former and current students of the College of Architecture of the University of Santo Tomas. Who do we want?
